Following the publication of our article on the option to work 95% for family reasons [1] last October, Generation 2004 is happy to announce that there has been positive progress made on this subject.
From now on a 5% working time reduction will be systematically granted upon request when any of the three conditions apply:
- an official/agent receives a double allowance for a dependent child under 14 due to disability
- an official/agent supports a child under 14 with a long-term illness.
- The spouse or recognised partner of a colleague with a dependent child under 14 passes away
There are also other circumstances under which the 95% part time work for full pay may be granted. For example, a divorce or separation, or when a spouse or recognised partner has been diagnosed with a serious health condition. For more information please read the interview with by DG HR Director Christian Roques and Head of Unit Koen Binon [2] and consult the new guidelines for the implementation of the 95% part-time work formula without salary reduction [3].
