Promotions are the key milestones of our professional career in the EU institutions. And they are even more important since career opportunities in the EU institutions are very much based on seniority, determined by grade, not overall professional experience, rather than merit. We do of course regret this situation and a lot of our activities at Generation 2004 is centred around making the promotion system more transparent, just and merit-based. We are also aiming to make it a vehicle for closing the post-2004 career and pay gap rather than using it to actually still exacerbate this gap.
See our newsletter 12 for our view of the European Commission promotion system resulting in an open letter from the Central Staff Committee to Vice-President Georgieva criticising the 2015 promotions exercise.
