*Update 22.02.2024 UK-only staff are restricted in the EEAS. We asked for figures [1].* There will be no forced resignations (FR) of UK officials who lose their EU citizenship when the UK leaves the EU, or hardly any, according to a decision from the Commission [2] just published. So thanks to the College for that, and no doubt a great relief for those British colleagues fortunate enough to have a permanent contract.
But what about temporary and Contract Agents? Sadly the Commission only promises “d’effectuer une analyse au cas par cas afin d’autoriser des exceptions dûment justifiées à l’exigence de nationalité prévue par le régime applicable aux autres agents’- and – ‘ à conclure des contrats qui fassent un usage généreux et transparent de cette possibilité de dérogation”. Judging by the ‘generosity’ previously shown towards staff on all matters contractual this is hardly reassuring.
By the way – now the financial crisis is over when can all staff stop paying the ‘solidarity levy’ [3]? which is still being so unjustly imposed on staff for reasons which are far from transparent (you remember it was extended because of the financial crisis at the same time as pay cut and a 7% increase in worktime without pay).

toolTips('.classtoolTips23','Contract Agents (CAs) were created by the 2004 staff regulations Reform. There are two types of CA: those with unlimited contracts, 3A [5] (‘indefinite’) and those with time-limited contracts [6], 3B [7]. CAs can belong to 4 different function groups (\'GF\') with different responsibilities and salaries [8].
As the use of contract staff becomes increasingly common, there has been a corresponding increase in the diversity of status and pay of the Commission’s workforce. For example, GFIV contract staff meeting the same minimum recruitment requirements (education and experience) as junior administrators may earn 28 % less. We have a working group dedicated to the dossier, and in December 2012 we addressed the first of many letters (\'notes\') about Contract Agents to Human Resources of all Institutions and agencies [10] (here is the cover e-mail [11]).
As a background you can see the report of the Commission to the Council regarding the recruitment of the contract agents in 2010 [12] (in French, COM(2011)802 final 23.11.2011).
