Are you spending more than 20% of your income in education – You can apply to get support (applications until 7/11/25). While we often are critical of bad administration practices and approaches, it is fair to mention that EU Institutions have positive programmes to support colleagues in worse situations.
One of them, quite unknown, is the financial support for families spending more than 20% of their income in primary or secondary education. Unfortunately, these provisions do not apply to staff serving in the delegations or agencies.
The educational situations considered are any of:
- Educational problems of children who attended European Schools but had to leave to follow another type of education.
- Educational problems due to the parent’s entry into service or change of place of employment.
- Absence of European School or suitable, moderately priced national education within 50 km of the place of employment.
The annual education costs must exceed 20% of the family income. Also, colleagues with the highest salaries (as of AD11) are excluded from this financial support.
You can apply for this help by 7/11/2025, the form and full details are available in Administrative Notice 21-2025 [1], please consult it for the formal aspects.
