Generation 2004 is the largest staff organisation in the European Commission, [1] representing colleagues across grades, functions and sites. We are a dynamic and committed team working to support staff on a wide range of professional and workplace-related issues.
We are looking for a communication expert, who is able to drive, coordinate and further develop our communication activities, with a strong focus on strategy, content, engagement and team coordination.
This is a full-time position, with secondment from your service to Generation 2004.

The role
The Communication Lead will take ownership of Generation 2004’s communication activities and communication strategy, combining expert-level communication skills with coordination and hands-on content creation.
The role includes leading and coordinating the team of colleagues contributing to Generation 2004’s communication work, organising tasks, setting priorities and ensuring high-quality outputs, while working in a collaborative and non-hierarchical environment. The successful candidate will have the space and trust to lead initiatives, introduce new formats and continuously improve how Generation 2004 communicates.
Main responsibilities
Communication strategy, coordination & team leadership
- Develop, implement and continuously improve Generation 2004’s communication strategy
- Coordinate and lead the communication team, including planning tasks, distributing work and following up on deliverables
- Ensure coherence, quality and consistency of messaging across all communication channels
- Act as a central point of contact for communication-related activities
- Propose and implement innovative communication approaches and formats
Editorial & content
- Coordinate, edit and publish the Generation 2004 newsletter, including follow-up with contributors
- Draft and edit articles, briefings and communication materials
- Create campaign materials such as leaflets, flyers and electoral programmes
- Manage and update website content using WordPress
Local Staff Committee elections
- Provide communication support for Local Staff Committee elections across various sites
- Coordinate election-related communication and campaign materials
- Work with local teams to ensure consistent visibility and messaging
Events & conferences
- Support the organisation of conferences and events, including communication tasks
- Assist with technical setup for online and hybrid events using Microsoft Teams and Webex
Multimedia, video & social media
- Contribute to visual, multimedia and video-based communication
- Support the development of video initiatives, including the Generation 2004 TV concept
- Develop and manage engaging content for digital and social media platforms
Rebranding (future-oriented)
- Contribute to and support future rebranding initiatives
- Help ensure coherence of visual identity and tone of voice as communication evolves
Profile sought
We are looking for a motivated colleague (preferably, but not exclusively, assistant (AST), secretary/clerk (AST/SC) or Contract Agent (CA)) who:
- is a communication expert with excellent drafting and editing skills in English; French is an asset
- is able to work autonomously while collaborating closely with others
- is comfortable coordinating people and inputs in a team setting
- has an interest in strategic, innovative and multimedia communication
- is ready to take responsibility and lead communication initiatives
Assets
- Experience in visual and image editing, preferably using Canva and/or Microsoft Publisher
- Familiarity with AI-based tools for content creation, editing or visual design
- Experience with social media and digital communication
- Experience in campaign, election or organisational communication
- Knowledge of the EU institutional environment and staff categories
