Ukraine: Easter action 2024

*Update 18.03.2024 5 days of volunteering extended to 2024 [1].* A group of volunteers is preparing an Easter transport with humanitarian help for Ukraine.

If you would like to support their action, please have a look at the Ukrainian handicrafts they offer for sale [2]. To know how the group uses funds, please see the photos and videos from the last deliveries [3]. Should you need more information, please contact the group [4] directly.

From the very start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, two individuals in Poland have been actively providing aid to the Ukrainian people. They run a small transport company and have been driving with buses full of humanitarian goods to Lviv, Kyiv and even Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia [5], and bringing refugees on their way back.

They always drive for free, sometimes while losing out on work opportunities and income, and always giving their time at considerable risk (see the bulletproof jackets). Today, more than two years into the war, they still stand ready to help, as long as they have something to take to Ukraine and enough fuel for the bus. To give an idea: fuel costs for a journey from Krakow in Poland to Lviv and back [6] are about 500 euros, to Kyiv [7] – about 1000.

From the start, the volunteer group has been supporting the two individuals financially, raising money for fuel (up to now they have financed some 65 bus trips!) and for all sorts of goods that they buy at wholesale prices in Poland.

In order to raise money, the group sells festive decorations (angels, eggs) and reusable gift wrappings, all hand-made by Ukrainian women in Ukraine and in Brussels. At the last Christmas sale they raised over 7000 euros. Obviously, donations, big or small, are more than welcome.

Please consider supporting them!

Other initiatives are also ongoing e.g. the 5 days of special leave for volunteering [9] appear to still be available (we have emailed for confirmation [10] of this) and there are still many different ways to get involved for Ukraine [11]. Check out our crisis-response action [12] category and our list of action for Gaza [13].

As always, feel free to contact [14] us if you have questions: we’re here for you.
