Welcome to the tenth edition of Generation 2004 newsletter for 2024. This edition highlights several key updates, beginning with a heartfelt thank you to our supporters in the recent Generation 2004 elections in Geel [1]. We also address pressing concerns about the challenging issues surrounding ASTSC career blockages [2]. Furthermore, we explore the certification process [3]. In addition we focus on unpaid leave [4] and the pursuit of longer and sustainable careers [5] for Contract Agents and we discuss whether to sign or not the petition [6] from the contract agent “collective”. There are two types of CA: those with unlimited contracts, 3A [15] (‘indefinite’) and those with time-limited contracts [16], 3B [17]. CAs can belong to 4 different function groups (\'GF\') with different responsibilities and salaries [18].
As the use of contract staff becomes increasingly common, there has been a corresponding increase in the diversity of status and pay of the Commission’s workforce. For example, GFIV contract staff meeting the same minimum recruitment requirements (education and experience) as junior administrators may earn 28 % less.
