Newsletter editorial – 19-12-2022

Welcome to this, the 17th and final edition of the Generation 2004 Newsletter for 2022. We wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year with a message from our chair [1]. Generation 2004 is now 10 years old [2] and we are happy with the most recent election results [3].  We share a potential quick fix [4] for those with internal-competition [5] language issues and we look at the additional and unreported costs related to the renewal of the laissez-passer [6]. Our Harassment Watch Network colleagues have a new publication [7] to coincide with the new anti-harassment framework and we provide an update on DG GROW [8]. As ever, we proposed an end-of-year checklist [9] for you and an invitation to our event on drafting your self-evaluation [10]. In other news, our contract agent colleague has won his case against the Commission, well done! The Commission was wrong to apply the poast-2014 pension accrual and retirement age on him (‘Picard case [11]’).  HR has now shared draft general guidelines [12] to the Working Time and Hybrid Working (WTHW) decision.

Enjoy the reading and get in touch [13] if you believe we can help!

A grounds-up initiative of colleagues, created in late 2019, as a response to the problem of harassment within the Commission. HWN wants to see our workplace free of harassment and any other form of violence and discrimination, a place where every colleague feels respected and valued, working in dignity and fully enjoying human rights: to break the silence around harassment, the isolation of colleagues affected by harassment as well as the fear, which many colleagues still have when being confronted with harassment.

Offers self-help group meetings and its advocacy team drafts policy papers and provides input for other entities e.g. the Central Staff Committee, where the HWN is very much appreciated.

Find them here [14], read about them here [15] and consult their publications:

We nominated the HWN for a 2021 diversity and inclusion Award [21]category 4 Outstanding Staff Group of the Year based on their exceptional dedication and constructive work on this difficult topic. Unfortunately the HWN did not win this time.
