Generation 2004 wishes you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year in spite of these very particular times, it’s been a hard year for all of us and we’d like you to know that we continue to raise your issues and fight on your side, even in the unprecedented perfect storm of circumstances we have been living for a while now: the ‘new normal’ of a global pandemic, national lockdowns, sudden border closures, homeschooling-teleworking burnout and an EU-27 post-Brexit: we are still here for you!
We not only we continue to defend your rights, but we have increased our capacities in order to serve you even better. Generation 2004 is the most active organisation, just to mention more than 100 notes sent, multiple training events, info sessions, lunch events and organising one-to-one coaching, 182 articles published and 18 newsletters sent as well as over 800 individual staff cases dealt with. Not to mention our participation in dozens of social dialogues and info meetings (on Coronavirus alone there were 16 of them) more than 100 meetings in over 30 joint committees, dozens of staff committee bureau meetings and Staff Committee plenary sessions. From the Generation 2004 team point of view we have also undergone a transformation in terms of our own human resources: since January 2019 we have recruited 3 new colleagues for the secretariat and 9 seconded colleagues.
We remain vigilant to ensure that current events are not used as opportunities to further erode the rights and morale of EU staff. The gulf that currently exists between the pre and post 2004/2014 staff must not be repeated and enlarged in the future, this time between those fortunate enough to be officials and those on fixed-term contracts.
We are doing all that we can as best we can and we thank you for your input, your unwavering support and your enthusiasm: we couldn’t do it without you!
