Corporate credit cards: what changed?

The recently changed conditions for having and using corporate credit cards confused many of us. We asked the Office for the Administration and Payment of Individual Entitlements (PMO) for clarification and additional information and below is a summary of what has changed and why.

The PMO has extended current credit-card contract with Lufthansa AirPlus Servicekarten GmbH until November 2021 (PMO Mission News No 04/2021, 16.03.2021).

Every staff member in possession of a corporate credit card (‘the cardholder’) should receive an email invitation from Lufthansa AirPlus Servicekarten GmbH to subscribe to a new credit card via a new online platform.

The new credit cards will have a new card number, a new personal identification number (PIN), a limit of EUR 5000 and a payment deadline of 28 days after receipt of the monthly statement.

Cardholders will benefit from a new, secure online portal, providing them with full access to their statements with an overview of all transactions.

Cardholders will be able to request, via the new online portal, a replacement card, to block their existing card, request a new PIN, change any personal data and activate the contactless functionality.

In messages to staff PMO stated that transactions made by the cardholder would be visible to PMO. This aspect was our main concern, as staff are permitted to use the credit card for private purchases. PMO informed us that these concerning the issuance of corporate credit cards. We were assured that the PMO has consulted the Data Protection Officer (DPO), the Legal Service and the Directorate-General for Budget (DG BUDG) before signing the amendment to the contract. The management of personal data by the PMO is covered by the privacy statement ‘Management of missions and authorised travel, including the online tool MiPS (Missions Processing System), OBT (Online Booking Tool) and the Travel Agency(ies), Mission Insurance and Professional Credit Card contracts’ which is available on the front page of MiPS.

The handling of personal data by Lufthansa AirPlus Servicekarten GmbH is explained in the privacy statement ‘AirPlus Corporate Card with Private Liability’.

Those colleagues who go on business trips (‘missions’) but do not wish to apply for a corporate credit card have the alternative option to ask for an advance (PMO Mission News No 01/2021, 20.01.2021).
