Valencia: concrete action

*Update 10.11.2024. Thanks to those of you who wrote to add to the list below.*

Original article: Numerous colleagues are asking how to help the people of Valencia in relation to the DANA Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos: the high-impact rainfall event which has caused widespread flooding. We share here a non-exhaustive list provided by Commission colleagues of initiatives aiming to provide assistance such as medicines, accommodation, financial donation, food,  family reunification etc.

Valencia (Spain) needs us!
Dear colleagues, as you might know Spain is living a very critical situation with the floods that occurred in Valencia and surroundings last week. Hundreds of people died, and more than thousands are still missing. Many people have lost everything, and the most affected areas remind inaccessible, without electricity and water. The reality is devastating, worrying and heartbreaking, Spanish people from all over the country are trying to help as much as they can, but this is not enough. That is why as a European Commission’s employee I count on your support and help. Many initiatives have been launched in order to collect funds to help those affected, so considering the European values that represent us, I would really encourage you to donate and to share the information with your colleagues.

How can I help?

Solidarity run
Hi there bxl running community:
We are a Spanish group of friends that is trying to bring a initiative that has started in Spain to raise funds to help Valencia and their ppl after the recently and devastating DANA

The idea is to buy a solidarity bib (10€) and run 5/10 kms this Friday[ 08.1.2024] from Flagey at 18h. We share the link of the event on Strava and the Spanish foundation that raises the funds (@fundaciohortasud).
We feel that you have a huge voice and a massive community that could help us a lot and that is why we ask you to join our initiative and share the event as much as possible.
We would greatly appreciate your support and participation!!!
MUCHISIMAS GRAAAACIAS!!!

– Several activities organised by Espai Valencià:
• Bingo – info (Thursday 19:00-22:00)
• Storyteller for kids – info (Monday at 11:00)
*They are preparing other initiatives that will be posted in their social media.
3. Share this information as much as you can as well as the news so that people are aware of the situation.
4. Think about any other initiatives that can be launched in order to help. Any help is welcome! (ex: if you know a transport company or supermarket willing to contribute; if you have an idea of a possible event, etc.)

We would like to THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
