Welcome to the eleventh edition of  Generation 2004 newsletter for 2024. In this edition, we are covering a range of topics, including updates on other locations such as the Canteen in Ispra,  the Healthcare system in Italy and the lack of transparency of the promotion system in  EEAS.  We invite you to share your experiences with the JSIS special reimbursement .   We are happy to provide you with the recording and slides of our free training on AD7 EPSO competition in partnership with Yasemos Europeos .  We raise again the issue of low temperature in the office.  As always, we keep on fighting for a fairer future for our ASTs colleagues and share with you the highlights of the ECA Report. Additionally, we have news on the Annual Salary Update 2024 in Brussels and in ISPRA and on the concrete action launched to help the people of Valencia. Finally, we inform you on the ‘voluntary’ availability During End-of-Year Break, the ‘End of Service’ IT access, the upcoming Changes to the Mission Guide and the next steps for Promotion/Reclassification.

AST & AST-SC staff: ECA Report Highlights Long-Standing Career Challenges

ISPRA : Access to Health Care in Italy – Sick of Waiting 

Equal and unrestricted access to affordable health care services – this is a prime objective and a non-negotiable right for all Commission staff and all Joint sickness insurance scheme (JSIS) affiliates irrespective of nationality. Yet this right is increasingly being compromised for the Ispra staff and their families, who are not in possession of the national health insurance card, the tessera sanitaria.

EEAS: Improving the Promotion/reclassification System

The yearly promotion/reclassification exercise within the European External Action Service (EEAS) is a crucial moment for all staff, whether officials, or non-permanent staff as it directly impacts career development and recognition of merit. The final lists for the 2024 exercises were published 07.11.2024. However, Generation 2004 has observed persistent concerns regarding the lack of transparency, predictability, and security in the current promotion system. We have made similar obervations about the promotions/reclassifications system in the Commission[1].

Valencia: concrete action

Free Training – EPSO AD7 Scientific Research (10 fields)

Generation 2004, in collaboration with Yasemos Europeos, is offering for free and for all staff, an online webinar to assist you in preparing for the EPSO competition – AD7 Scientific Research competitions (10 fields).  You will get tips for the application process and an analysis of the tests. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions after the presentation. The session will be in English.

JSIS special reimbursement: send us your experiences!

JSIS special reimbursement (Article 72(3) [1]) calculations will be sent automatically, can you verify? The rules say it can happen, but has it ever happened? Witnesses please! We can find no figures and we need your help! So, any colleagues out there who have (or have had) heavy medical expenses, have you ever received an information note listing non-reimbursed expenditure over the previous 36 months and informing you of your potential eligibility for additional special reimbursement?
