“A strong partnership for the benefit of delegation families between G2004 and EUDPN – EU Delegations Partners Network ASBL is born. We are delighted to share that the EU Delegation Partners Network (EUDPN ASBL) has recently begun collaborating with Generation 2004, the largest staff association within the European Commission and the EEAS.
Together, we aim to promote the well-being and rights of expatriate families serving in EU Delegations across the globe.
Generation2004 – the biggest staff association within EC and EEAS and EUDPN have teamed up for one simple reason: to exploit synergies and better address the needs of delegation families.
Not only do Delegation families have unique opportunities and experiences, they also face unique challenges and difficulties. To name just a few examples, spouses and partners are often unable to work abroad, which results in significant gaps in their earnings, pension contributions and job histories, reducing their future employability. For instance, children often have to change schools (and curricula and languages of instruction) every few years. Children with additional educational needs or medical issues often have significant difficulty finding suitable schools abroad.
At the same time, Delegation spouses, partners and families play a critical role in the success and effectiveness of the EU staff and their overseas posting. Family-friendly policies are therefore essential to support families adequately, and enable the EU institutions to recruit high-quality candidates for Delegations, transfer them as needed, and retain them in the long term.
We firmly believe that, by coming together, G2004 and EUDPN can better enhance awareness of the issues facing Delegation families and work towards more effective family support tools.
About EUDPN
We are a non-profit organisation that supports families of expatriate EU staff members in EU Delegations. We are officially recognised by the EU and work very closely with the EEAS Family Officer to advance the interests of Delegation families. We are based in Brussels and are staffed entirely by volunteers with many years of experience in relocation and expatriation of Delegation families.
“Our mission is to assist you and your families throughout your journey in the diplomatic service of the European Union.”
What Can We Do For Your Family?
First and foremost, your family is not alone. EUDPN advises families in all stages of a Delegation posting, i.e. before taking up of duty, during the assignment and upon return. We help with typical relocation issues (moving, housing and schooling), but also with family crises or situations of evacuation.
Support of spouses & partners is essential to the success of a Delegation posting. For this reason, we operate a closed Facebook group with former and current Delegation spouses & partners, offering a safe space where your family members can reach out for support from like-minded people. Join EUDPN Facebook today!
We firmly believe in informed spouses and partners. We organise webinars on family-related issues, including on residence and tax questions, career support, relocation and integration, etc.
We advocate for more effective family support practices within EU Institutions. Together with the EEAS Family Officer, EUDPN works to raise awareness about the particular challenges of family life on overseas postings. We are also a dedicated member of our umbrella organisation, EUFASA AISBL – European Union Foreign Affairs Spouses, Partners and Families Association.
Coming to Brussels or passing through? We operate a Brussels-based EUDPN Group that meets in person once a month to socialize, for cultural outings and to exchange information about life in Brussels or postings.
Delegation Liaison Officer (DLO) Pilot Project
Would your spouse or partner be interested in helping to build a positive and family-friendly environment for their fellow Delegation families? Join our pioneering DLO project.
The DLO pilot was launched in October 2023 and is jointly managed by the EEAS Family Officer and EUDPN.
Volunteer DLOs from the spouses & partner community act as a focal point of welcome, information and support for the expat families before and during their posting.
We cover now more than 10% of all EU Delegations (=Family Posts) but we are always looking for new candidates.
