Unofficial minutes of the General Assembly in Luxembourg of 9 July 2019

The Local Staff Committee (LSC) Luxembourg has not yet made public the minutes of the General Assembly that took place on 9 July 2019. We would like to provide you therefore with our unofficial minutes about this Assembly and with information that you may not read from the official minutes. But first let us go back to how the story began… Continue reading Unofficial minutes of the General Assembly in Luxembourg of 9 July 2019

The electoral system of the Luxembourg LSC is flawed and should be changed!!!

Trade unions and staff associations (OSPs) representing almost three quarters of staff in Luxembourg but having a minority (30% of seats) in the current the Local Staff Committee (mandate 2016-19) are convinced: The electoral system must be changed towards a proportional distribution of seats. A proportional seat distribution is necessary to revive true discussion and consensus-finding among the plurality of opinions as well as the possibility to bring in new ideas to the Local Staff Committee (LSC) by all members. G2004 Newsletter # 7

See here the STRIKE NOTICE by all unions and OSPs (including the FULL and UNEQUIVOCAL support of Generation 2004) concerning the precarious and grave situation of our contract agent colleagues in Luxembourg; again something to be proud of dear Commission. But of course, when you get too high in the ivory tower, the view down below easily becomes obfuscated by clouds, fog etc … especially in Luxembourg!

LUX Contract Agents: a fight against precarity in the Commission

G2004 Newsletter #9

Generation 2004 continues to support Contract Agents in Luxembourg as they fight for a decent pay or for that matter, a pay that is not below the legal Luxembourgish minimum.

Several meetings between the staff representatives and DG HR have taken place over the past days and weeks and although some concessions were proposed by the administration, fundamental differences unfortunately remain. DG HR considers any salary compensation out of the question and instead proposes to stop the movement with “social measures” such as – for instance – the ludicrous proposal of reducing the price of (some) meals in the cafeteria. The idea of being silenced with a baguette springs to mind instantly, doesn’t it? Or Marie Antoinette’s infamous proposal to “let them eat cake”, when faced by the first uprisings of the French revolution. Following a first meeting with staff representatives on 21 November in Brussels which we covered extensively in our last newsletter, on 11 December, Vice-President (and Commissioner for human resources) Georgieva, together with her team and the senior management of DG HR, met with Luxembourg (LUX) staff representatives following an invitation of the LUX LSC. LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST! Elections in Lux and the EP: Generation2004 is expanding

  • Generation2004 has been participating in the Local Staff Committee elections in the COMMISSION IN LUXEMBOURG and in the European Parliament. In Luxembourg, Generation2004 scored 19.96% of the votes which is a remarkable result for a group that entered the election campaign only three weeks ago. However, due to the design of the voting system, which in our view rewards excessively the formation of majorities, this figure translates only into 2 seats out of 20 (i.e. 10%), while proportionality would have justified 4. We firmly believe that this electoral system with its incomprehensible vote counting, gerrymandered (or tailor-made) for one single big union ‒ who got (only) 36% of votes, but took 65% of the seats (13 all together) ‒ should be radically changed.
