AST, AST/SC Conferences

Generation 2004 takes the AST and AST/SC issues very seriously and proactively on addressing them at every possible opportunity with the Appointing Authority including  at political level. In line with this, we have recently started to organise lunchtime conferences on the topic and meeting our AST and AST/SC colleagues all over the Commission. The latest such conference just took place in Luxembourg and further sessions are planned at different Commission workplaces in the near future. In these conferences a presentation of the AST and AST/SC career history and current situation status is delivered. This is followed by an open debate where questions are answered and possible solutions are offered. Stay tuned!

Are the assessment and promotion exercises really independent from each other?

We say this is not entirely true!

Your report may indeed be only one of the elements taken into account when your DG prepares the draft promotion list… but the language of your appraisal will decide the fate of your appeal if you launch one for not being proposed.

Therefore your self-assessment and the evaluation by the reporting officer must very positively mirror your performance.

Greenpeace & Generation 2004 lunch-time conference on Air Quality

We all know (with a few exceptions) that we are living in a polluted world. We all know (with few exceptions) that we should do something about it. But what perhaps we don’t know (with few exceptions) is that we need to do it now. No time to postpone our contribution to a clean air and a clean environment. We are at the point of almost no return and we need to act accordingly in order to leave a living planet to our kids and generations to follow.

In March 2018  Greenpeace Belgium presented a report called Mijn lucht Mijn School (My air My school) based on a 4-week study on the air in 222 Belgian schools. And with no surprise, the study indicates that the air our kids are breathing is quite bad. In fact, only 7 schools in Belgium are inside the so called “green zone” (good air quality, see table below), the rest of the schools are in the yellow, orange and light red zone. 5 Belgian schools are in the no go zone – not so many, but still a few. The EU normative on the NO2 particles are set quite high, so one could claim that the majority of the schools have actually clean air, but this is not the case. Everything outside a green zone is already a risk for the health.

Generation 2004 organises a conference on New ways to collaborate in the work place.

If you are wondering,

  • How the future of work would look like?
  • What changes emerging technologies could bring to our daily life’s?
  • What would be some ways to address increasing complexity in our daily life’s?
  • If it is possible to make more liberated, self-organized working environment in European institutions?

Then the presentation may contribute to answering those questions.

It will help to look bit ”outside the box” and be aware on future of work tendencies.

AST Conference: A life of an AST: is there light in the tunnel?

On 8 March Generation 2004 organised a lunchtime conference for AST colleagues. It consisted in a detailed presentation and answering many questions from the audience. The two main questions discussed were:

  • What is the truth about AST recruitment in the Commission since 2004?
  • What are the realistic prospects for career development for “ASTs (forever) in transition”?

This lunch-time conference is the forth large public event organised by Generation 2004 after the Pensions Conference organised in February 2018.

The lunch-time conference brought together a large number of attendees in Brussels and several hundred participants from many sites through web-streaming.
